This text is a brief reflection on the nature of the transition from the Old Regime to Liberalism in European societies of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and the significance of the rupture then verified. The liberal revolutions consolidated and institutionalized the principle that the "good social order" resided in the equality of citizens, intervening in the aristocratic logic of the harmony of society based on the principle of privilege and distinction, and the random discretion of birth. By the introduction of egalitarian ideas and egalitarian conception of society, the logic of political power changes matrixically. Nineteenth-century liberalism, effecting the political-ideological break with the Old Regime, transports us into contemporary times.
