The dissonance between the internal regulations of the Society of Jesus in Japan, which fostered a method of mission based on acomodatio, and its practical application, which excelled the apology of Japanese values, was a constant during the Society's presence on the land of the rising sun. This policy of discrimination consciously predominates and would lead to numerous internal conflicts in the Society of Jesus between Japanese and Europeans. This article aims to analyze the impact of the Jesuit mission in Japan with regard to the formation of a mixed culture, based on written requirements imposed on all Japanese who wished to join the Society.
