Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to test the Democratic Peace Theory, under the analysis of the Cenepa War, confronting the main premise of the TPD, which suggests that liberal democratic states do not wage war against each other. Soon, the origins of the idea of democratic peace and the main criticisms of it will be reviewed. In addition, the War of Cenepa and its antecedents will be presented, so that it can be identified that these events are not adequately explained by the Democratic Peace Theory and, therefore, indicate their falsifiability. Thus, this is a preliminary exercise to encourage other studies.
